The serological method ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay) is the most reliable method for the detection of a current infection. Antibodies against pathogens can be
demonstrated in blood using the ELISA. Many pathogens can be reliably examined with a PCR (Polymerase Chain reaction). In the PCR a part of the genetic material (DNA or RNA) of a virus
is multiplied. Serological tests such as the ELISA show the immunological reaction after the bird is infected with the virus. Our research has shown that serological (blood) testing is
the most reliable method for the detection of chronic infections (virus carriers). For parrots we can
offer various serological (ELISA) tests.
